Hello and welcome to Doula Ireland. I am the Founder and Director of Doula Ireland. Like most Doulas I came to this work after having a doula support my husband and I at my son's birth. I am a Certified Doula (CD DONA) and Approved DONA Birth Doula Trainer (DONA), HypnoBirthing Practitioner, GentleBirth teacher and Hypnotherapist. I am also Chair of Birth Matters a voluntary consumer group initiated by Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to improve maternity services in the North East.
 

I am also the author of The Better Birth Book - your 'Paper Doula' and detailed guide to having a positive birth experience in Ireland.

Helen is a Doula living in Dublin, she is offering her services as a Doula to couples in Dublin and the surrounding counties. Maria O’Sullivan - Cork

Maria is a Doula based in Cork city since 2004. She has a background in the Steiner and holistic approached to early years care and development. She has trained with Michel Odent in November 2005 and completed training with Doula Ireland in 2006. As a mother of a 3½ year old and as a childcare professional of over 12 years experience Maria believes that pregnancy and birth can be a wonderful journey for baby, mother and their family.
Maria offers a range of services including childbirth education, birth planning, pre and post birth preparation and primarily continuous emotional support during the birth at home or in hospital. Marguerite Hannan - Athlone/Westmeath - Midlands

Marguerite is living in the central town of Athlone, in Westmeath and works as a Doula in the Midlands to Mid-West,to within 50/60 mins from Athlone (flexible).
Marguerite is a 32 year old mother of 4 children. She has two girls who were born in hospital and both her sons were born at home with Independent Community Midwives.
Marguerite  is a long standing member of various organizations such as 'La leche League of Ireland', and has been attending monthly support meetings with out fail for the last 10 years. Marguerite has breastfed all her children.
She is also involved on committee level with 'The Home Birth Association of Ireland', which not only promotes Home birth but a return to natural birth which has proven benefits for mother and baby, and too is a committee member of 'The Doula Association of Ireland'. Emily trained with Michel Odent; World renowned obstetrician; and Liliana; a grandmother who embodies the female wisdom of a true Doula. Emily has also trained with Pam England, author of the life changing “Birthing from Within” approach to childbirth.  Emily is a play therapist, counselor and mother of 3 (with 3 very different births)

Given her varied backgrounds and training, Emily offers many services from holistic birth preparation, counseling for previous birth trauma, the nuts and bolts of hospital procedures and Doula/birth support.  Emily is a strong believer in the pregnancy and birth process as a profound time of change.  She has experienced first hand the enormous positive difference a Doula can make to a woman’s sense of power and fulfillment on birthing her baby.

My name is Caroline Rocliffe, I am based in North County Dublin. I will cover all areas up to and including 1 hours drive away. Nicole is a mother of two and has always had a love for pregnancy and birth. Trained in February 2008 with Dr Michel Odent. I have studied Biological Sciences and went on to do a Masters in Immunology and a PhD in Medicine. I am currently doing Post Doctoral Research in Health Sciences at UCD.

 


Susan McDowell—Belfast, Northern Ireland


Susan trained as a birth doula in Dublin with DONA founder Penny Simkin and Doula Ireland in June, 2007.  Originally from the USA, Susan has been living in Belfast for seven years where she and her husband have had three children, the last two of whom were born at home in the birthing pool with the wonderful support of a DONA-trained doula.

Susan’s involvement with the National Childbirth Trust in Belfast over the past six years (as postnatal support group leader, antenatal class booking clerk, and branch chair) has given her many opportunities to help support women during the antenatal and postnatal periods, as well as with breastfeeding.  She is eager to provide continuous emotional, physical and informational support to couples giving birth in hospital or at home.  She also offers at least two antenatal and two post-partum consultations.

Gill Allmond—Belfast, Northern Ireland


Gill also trained as a birth doula in Dublin with DONA founder Penny Simkin and Doula Ireland in June, 2007.  Gill's first child was born by caesarean section in London, her second, almost four years later, was born in water at home in Belfast.

Gill is willing to provide support to any women and their families in the greater Belfast area but has a particular interest in women/couples aiming to have a vaginal birth after caesarean whether at home or in hospital. She believes strongly in a woman's right to be supported and encouraged during labour and birth.
